Muay Thai has apparently gained the tile of the king of Martial Arts by maintaining an undefeated streak against most other martial art style and also become most favourite of all those who want to learn stand up striking, so it is the most growing stand up martial art of today world, and as a career opportunity people are embracing it. In Thailand Muay Thai is a culture and has been going on for centuries infect it is the national sports of Thailand, and we can see the Thailand is considered the home of muay thai we can see astonishing sight of great fighters fighting at lumpini stadium and Rajadamnern stadium these are the two prominent places in Thailand, foreigners from all over the world visit it and it has a high foot fall of martial lovers coming to train in Muay thai, Every aspect of Muay Thai is being developed under the care of great grand masters of Thailand.

Be it Ancient Muay Boran styles or Muay thai sports the ring fight,  the deep study over all muay Thai subjects are going on, besides professional  fights , there is an amateur version of muay Thai which is getting a lot of popularity  in the world, today if we look at muay thai  it is seen as the most adapted martial art by the martial artist of other styles, even  muay thai has become the backbone for most Ufc, mma fighter, this is not an exaggeration that muay thai has stood taller among all other martial art over the time.   The grand sports authorities have adapted and honoured muay thai as a healthy, thrilling and intensive sport. Muay thai is affiliated with Olympic Council of Asia OCA . IFMA Muaythai is included into the official programme of many multi-sport games such as the World Games, the FISU World University Championship programme, Asian Beach Games, Asian Indoor & Martial Art Games, World Combat Games, SEA Games, TAFISA Games and many others sports committee and European sports committee, Muay thai Boxing academy is affiliated to Rajdhani Association of Muaythai recognized by Delhi Olympic Association as well as  Indian Olympic association and also affiliated with Kru Muaythai Association thus it the most authentic body to pursue muay thai.

(1) Muay Thai Amateur

Is a combat sport that uses stand up striking with clinching techniques.

Muay Thai Amateur is a sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee and More than 130 National Olympic Committee (NOC) recognizes this sport.

One can start participating from the age of 8 and following safety equipment’s are mandatory for the boxer must wear Muay Thai shorts and Sando , Head Gear, Gum Shield , Chest Guard or Body Shield , Shin & Elbow Guard , Breast Protectors are optional but recommend Ed for ladies Muay Thai Gloves , Hand wraps and Groin Guard for males is mandatory and for females.

Bouts are 3 rounds in duration with each round lasting for 2 minutes.

(2) Muay Thai Pro-Am

In Muay Thai Pro-Am only experienced boxers can participate, 3 yrs minimum with achievements in merit.

Following are the equipment which are mandatory 

  • Muay Thai Gloves.
  • Hand wraps.
  • Shin & Elbow Guards.
  • Muay Thai Shorts and Sando is not required in case of Males. 
  • Groin Guard.

Bouts are 3 or 5 rounds in duration with each round lasting for 3minutes.

(3) Muay Thai Professional

In Muay Thai Pro only elite Boxers can participate, Boxers are getting paid on the basis of their records and performance.

Following are the equipment’s which are mandatory

  • Muay Thai Gloves
  • Hand Wraps 
  • Muay Thai shorts and Sando is not required in Case of male.
  • Groin Guard.

Bouts are 3 or 5 rounds in duration with each round lasting 3 or 5 minutes

Muaythai Body Weapons

Muaythai weapons consist of head, fists, elbow, knee and feet. Eventhough using head to attack (head butt) is not allowed in competition these days, but you can still learn how to attack by using head for self-defense.

Attacking methods–terms and vocabularies There are basic key terms that we use calling part of the body and technique usage related to them as Muaythai weapons.

  • Math = Fists,
  • Sork = Elbow,
  • Khao = Knee,
  • Tao : Foot,
  • Punch : Chok,
  • Elbow Strike : SorkDtee,
  • Knee Strike : Khao,
  • Kick : Dtae,
  • Foot-Thrust : Teeb

Muaythai Training Equipments

Equipments for training are very necessary for Muay Thai. You can not practice alone without additional equipments. Using equipments are not only for improve your skill but most importantly is for your safety. Here is the list of fundamental equipments to be used for training. Some equipments are for training camp to provide to students and some are for individual responsible to have in personal.

Kick/punching bags

The heavy bags used in training to practice most kind of Muaythai weapons as well as practice movements. Bags can be varied in weight and size, depends on level, age of students. Most camps normally provide heavy bags for students. It is also possible to have heavy bags at home but it requires larger space install and practice.

Hand wrapping stripe

They are used for the safety, your hands need to be firmly wrapped before you wear boxing gloves. This is to protect hands from sprain.

Muaythai Boxing gloves for training

Boxing gloves for training can be varied from 10oz,12oz,14oz,16oz ounce. However, there should be another set of gloves for only practice punching heavy bag.

Ankle supports

It is for protect ankles from sprain. Generally, Ankle supports are also allowed in the competition. You may also need shin guards to protect shins.

Muaythai skipping rope

Although, all camps will provide this to students, but it is also a good idea that you should have your own to exercise at home. Other equipments that you may need is small barbell to get muscles exercise.

Groin Guard

As all of boxers are aware that this must be used all of the time, even it is just training. It is also suggested to use a mouth-guard for training sessions.
