Men Physique: From Sharpness To Definition

Bodybuilding is one of the highest work-intensive sports in the world. It requires one to put resistance to his/her muscles causing microtears which makes the muscles grow. Millions of people around the world are aspiring to participate in this sport which has now increased the intensity of the competition. 

Needless to say, big muscles are just not good enough to cut through the competition and secure the top rankings. To secure the top ranks, participants are now expected to take one extra leap, a big one though. Men’s Physique is one of the finest categories in bodybuilding sports that is now becoming the turning point in the final results.

What is men’s physique?

Men’s physique is not just about growing big muscles but making those muscles look shaper and finer. It is the extreme muscularity in the body that the participants focus on in the men’s physique category. To master the men’s physique category, one needs to focus more on repetitions, body conditioning, shape symmetry & stage presence. It is the muscular fibers that the judges look for in the body. It is the athletic body that they look for. 

In order to conquer this particular category, participants go through extreme diet conditioning where even a grain of salt is considered in the calorie count. Extreme calorie deficit with a high fiber and protein diet intake is the key to winning in the men’s physique category. A body fat percentage of less than 5% is the entry point to be even considered in the men’s physique category.

When did it start?

The first time when Men’s Physique came into the mainstream world was during the 2013 Mr. Olympia competition. It was Mark Anthony Wingson who bagged the 1st position in this category. It was Mark Anthony who took the stage by storm with his strong and extremely sharp upper body display of muscles. However, not much extremity was put in place when it came to the lower body i.e. the legs. 

It was IFBB Men’s Physique Pro that was the first men’s physique competition hosted on Indian soil in the year 2016-17. Ever since then, it has been happening every year with more and more international players participating in it. It is Mr. Manoj Patil (winner of Mr. India Best Physique 2016) who is currently the face of the Indian Men’s Physique regiment, a proud ambassador of this amazing sport.
